Abstract: We compute the radiation output of electrons accelerated by Poynting flux numerically from Particle-In-Cell simulations, and derive an analytic formula to explain these numerical results. We show that the in-situ power output and critical frequency are much below those predicted by the classical synchrotron formulae. We then apply these results to a model of long gamma-ray bursts. This model predicts spectral break energies remarkably consistent with the observed values.
